E-GMAT

eGMAT.com GMAT Review

Launched in August 2010 by founder Rajat Sandana, the concept of E-GMAT was to use technology to provide high-quality education at an affordable price. But does it do that?

Let’s take a quick look at the main features:

  • Prepares students for taking the GMAT
  • Offers thousands of test questions and mocks to practice
  • Meaning in Sentence Correction helps students to avoid mistakes
  • Pre thinking in Critical Reasoning gives students the tools they will need to answer questions logically
  • Reading Strategies in RC helps students to comprehend a variety of topics including humanities, sciences, and economics
  • Offers three courses – GMAT Online, Verbal Online, and Quant Online
  • Hosts free webinars once a week and offers detailed study plans if needed
  • Sigma X Mock Tests allow you to take tests in exam conditions
  • Analytics help you to track your performance

GMAT Online

Gmat review

The dashboard gives you an overview of your completion progress, as well as a neat overview of time spent in each section.

GMAT

Each module is made up of a series of activities.

GMAT Module

The videos look a little like Powerpoint presentations. They offer a great, visual representation of the topic (in this case the building blocks of a sentence). At any time, you can click on the three lines on the right and it will ask if you have a question – someone will get back to you within one working day.

You can also take notes whenever you like.

At certain points in the video, buttons along the right will appear. One of them is the ‘Pre-Assessment Quiz’. This allows you to take a quiz to see where your base level of knowledge is. This is a great way to compare progress as you work through the course.

You can also click ‘Concept’, which allows you to work through each concept introduced in the video in more depth.

GMAT review concept

You can choose to view the Summary too, which gives you an overview of each concept mentioned in the video.

As well as videos, you have the option to estimate your abilities using quizzes. These are hosted by E-GMAT’s online quiz platform (Scholaranium), and they’re pretty simple to navigate. Just click on the quiz you’d like to begin. The quizzes cannot be paused and if you lose internet connection midway, you won’t be able to retake it – so only sit down to do it when you’re ready.

gmat vs magoosh

You can also choose to participate in practice activities. These will give you a chance to test your knowledge in a practical way to see how well you’ve grasped each concept.

gmat vs magoosh

These work in a similar way to the other quizzes, but they’re timed – so you can get an idea of how long you will have to spend on each question in a real exam setting.

Verbal

The Verbal plan works in a similar way. Offering tests, videos, and mocks directed at preparing you for the verbal section of the GMAT, there is a focus on reading comprehension, sentence correction, and critical reasoning.

Throughout, you can track your progress, so you know which areas to improve on.

magoosh screenshot

One neat feature is the ability to design your own quizzes – this is great if there are questions you need to focus on.

Quant

Again, the Quant (or quantitative reasoning) plan prepares you for this section of the GMAT, so it focuses on arithmetic, algebra, and geometry.

We’d like to take a minute to talk about the analytics offered.

gmat quant

You can view your skills data in any topic (algebra, geometry, number properties, word problems, and advanced topics). The more quizzes you complete, the more detailed the analytics get – and you can choose ‘show only weak areas’ so you can focus purely on the areas that need improvement.

This is really smart and certainly makes it easy to figure out your weak spots.

Sigma-X Mock Tests

sigma x

Want to take a mock test under the proper conditions? This is how to do it.

It gives you an idea of how long the mock will take, as well as giving you some guidelines. To get the most out of it, it’s recommended that you follow the instructions exactly. You must input your target score before you begin.

The Quant section takes around an hour, with 31 questions. The entire test is timed.

This is a great way to prepare for the actual GMAT!

User-Friendliness and Support

The platform is pretty easy to navigate. However, it’s definitely not the most enticing-looking platform to use. It’s pretty bland to look at, which may put some students off. However, it was pretty simple to find what we were looking for.

The FAQ section is okay – there’s a little information there, but at any time you can leave a message for a representative to get back to you if you encounter any problems. Also, the Doubt system is good – if you have problems understanding a section, just leave a message and someone will get back to you within 24 hours.

Magoosh GMAT Review

Magoosh GMAT Review

Magoosh was founded in 2009, Magoosh helps students to prepare for a wide variety of tests. How does it work?

Let’s take a look at the main features:

  • Prepares students for GRE, GMAT, TOEFL, SAT, ACT, Praxis, LSAT, MCAT, and IELTS (depending on which plan is chosen)
  • The web platform offers thousands of timed questions, video lessons, and progress tracking
  • The mobile app offers flashcard, math and verbal practice, and the chance to play against opponents
  • Tons of free resources including study plans, blog posts, and videos

For the purposes of this article, we’ll check out Magoosh’s GMAT course.

Lessons

Magoosh GMAT Lessons

Magoosh works similarly to E-GMAT – you can go through each topic to access video lessons, questions, and practice sessions.

Video lessons are pretty simple to navigate:

Magoosh GMAT Lessons

You can enter notes along the left-hand side as you go. Also, if you scroll further down, you can access a transcript, as well as related blog posts (which is really handy if you want to get some practical advice on sitting the GMAT).

You can see an overview of all the topics by clicking ‘Lessons’ at the top.

Practice

You can choose to practice math or verbal at any time:

Magoosh Math

This will bring up a timed practice session in which you can answer questions. At any time you can click ‘end practice and see results’.

You can also choose to take a practice test. As with E-GMAT, Magoosh will give you some test instructions so you can make the most of the practice exam. They’ll give you a predicted score based on your answers, so it’s a great way to see where you’re currently at and if you can make improvements.

Review

The review is the analytics section of the site. It allows you to see how you’re doing in each subject – the filtering at the top is pretty cool, as it will help you to narrow down how you’re doing in certain categories.

Magoosh gmat review

You can also check how you’re doing when it comes to pacing, even comparing yourself to the average pacing of other students.

It doesn’t seem to immediately identify your weak spots as well as E-GMAT, however.

Resources

The great thing that Magoosh offers is free resources. They offer free e-books, study plans, and video resources in both math and verbal.

Mobile App

There are a lot of Magoosh apps, so you need to make sure you get the right one. The GMAT app looks like this: It offers free resources for planning, including study guides and strategies.

This is great, as it enables you to practice on the go without having to be sitting at home at your desk.

E-GMAT vs Magoosh GMAT Review: User-Friendliness and Support

At any time, you can ask for support using the chatbot on the right-hand side.

If you’re struggling with a particular topic, you can ask for help, and someone will contact you as quickly as possible.

In terms of user-friendliness and navigation, we do prefer the layout of Magoosh. It’s a bit brighter and feels more friendly and accessible. This might not be a consideration for you, but it’s worth mentioning.

Guided Study

This plan offers you some personalized tutoring. You will receive 6 hours of tutoring, 1-to-1 guidance and Skype chats, as well as everything you’d receive in the self-study plans (which includes access to all the sections, 340 video lessons, 1,300 practice questions, 2 practice tests, and free study schedules). It costs $799 for one year’s worth of access.

Self-Study – Premium

This obviously lacks the personalized tutoring, but still includes access to all sessions, including 340 video lessons, 1,300 practice questions, 2 practice tests, and study schedules. It costs $249 for a year’s worth of access.

Self-Study – Math + IR

This skips the Verbal section, so you miss out on some of the content, but if you don’t need support for that, it could be a good plan for you. You get 175 video lessons and 720 questions, plus study schedules – but you don’t get access to practice tests. It costs $219 for a year’s access.

E-GMAT vs Magoosh – Which is Better?

We’ll take a look in a few categories to see how they compare to each other.

Lessons

The video lessons themselves are very similar on both platforms. However, we found the visuals in the E-GMAT lessons to be a bit clearer, so we’ll give this one to E-GMAT.

Tests

Again, the testing system works in the same way – multiple-choice questions that are timed. However, we do like the fact that Magoosh offers practice tests on their app – this makes studying much more convenient. So, we’ll give this one to Magoosh.

Both platforms offer practice exams in test conditions – again, they work very similarly.

Extra Features

We’ll have to give this one to Magoosh – it has tons of features including study plans, e-books, and blog posts. There’s a lot of free content here, so if you do go for it, make sure you make the most of it.

Pricing

This is a no-brainer. E-GMAT’s ‘GMAT Online’ plan is $349, while Magoosh’s ‘Self-Study Premium’ plan costs just $219. Plus, with Magoosh, you get 12 months of access – E-GMAT only offers 6 months.

Analytics/Review

We’re going to give this one to E-GMAT. Although Magoosh does offer some pretty great analytics when it comes to your performance, E-GMAT makes it super easy to find your weak spots so you can improve them.

User-Friendliness and Design

Both platforms make it pretty simple to access help if required. However, Magoosh’s platform feels a bit less stark and a bit more welcoming, so we’re going to pick it for this category, too.

FAQs

Question: What is Scholaranium?

Answer: Scholaranium is E-GMAT’s platform for online quizzes and tests. The analytics combined with the questions allow you to identify your weak spots easily.

Question: Can I get a refund if I don’t get on with E-GMAT?

Answer: Yes. There is a 7-day return policy in place, but you have to have access under 7 hours of content, and you can’t have attempted more than one Sigma-X test.

Question: Can I get strategy advice with E-GMAT?

Answer: They provide two strategy sessions – ‘How to Create Your Study Plan for GMAT’ and ‘GMAT Score Booster’.

Question: What are the qualifications of the E-GMAT experts?

Answer: E-GMAT teachers are the creators of the courses themselves. They also do 100+ hours of research each month to stay up to date.

E-GMAT vs Magoosh: Conclusion

It’s probably obvious from the previous section, but Magoosh is the winner here. The clean design, mobile app, and extra resources give it the edge over E-GMAT – plus it’s cheaper and you get access to it for longer. The review section isn’t as good, but we still feel that Magoosh is the better platform.

User testimonials are pretty glowing from both platforms, however. If you want, you can test them both out with a free trial before you decide.

Bottom Line: Go with the better value and easier to use Magoosh plan here.

We hope this has helped you to prepare for taking the GMAT!
